A recent example of this spirit was displayed when residents of Bendo Sari and Curug Sari in Cemplang Village, Jawilan District, Serang Regency, Banten, worked together to prepare for the commemoration of Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW 1441 Hijriah. In this article, we reflect on the spirit of gotong-royong and the importance of community in Indonesian society.
The residents of Bendo Sari and Curug Sari put their hearts and souls into making the Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW commemoration a success. The two villages held separate events for the commemoration on different days, with Bendo Sari holding the event on 19 November 2019, and Curug Sari holding theirs a week before, on 27 November 2019. In preparation, the residents of each village organized a gotong-royong to clean up their areas and put up decorations.
The spirit of gotong-royong is at the heart of Indonesian society. It is a reflection of the community's willingness to work together to achieve a common goal.
