Jakarta - The Jam'iyah Batak Muslim Indonesia (JBMI) has called on North Sumatera Hydro Energy (PT NSHE) to provide compensation fo...
JBMI has requested the compensation for the land that PT NSHE had seized for the construction of the Simarboru hydroelectric power plant. The residents of the area have been fighting for compensation for several years. In 2013, PT NSHE approached the locals to acquire approximately 50 hectares of land in the region, including the land belonging to the Lobu Sitompul Adat community. However, PT NSHE never fulfilled its promises of compensating the community.
The JBMI, at the local and national level, has demanded PT NSHE pay reasonable compensation to the community as a symbol of goodwill and ethical business practices. JBMI has written multiple letters, requesting the company to provide a response. However, the company is yet to respond or provide compensation.
The actions of PT NSHE are not in line with ethical principles. Companies have a responsibility to maintain ethical practices while conducting business operations. It is necessary to ensure that corporations act in an ethical way to safeguard the rights, dignity, and well-being of these communities.
Lobu Sitompul is an integral part of the community's heritage, and the JBMI demands PT NSHE acknowledge and respect it as such. PT NSHE should compensate the community accordingly for the acquired land to avoid any further conflict or misinterpretation of ethical standards.
The JBMI has been tirelessly working to ensure the ethical treatment of communities affected by PT NSHE's activities. It puts the responsibility of ethical practices on companies and their executives to provide compensation and end the long-standing conflict-marred by distress in the affected communities.
